Hazardous Materials Spill Exercise
Hosted by U.S. EPA Region 8

On September 15-18, 2026, we will be holding a hazardous materials spill exercise at the Denver Federal Center. The exercise is a partnership of the US Environmental Protection Agency, Department of the Interior, states, local agencies, NGOs, Phillips 66 and other  industry partners.  This event will provide the opportunity to learn more about oil and hazardous materials response at federal, state and local levels. The event will also highlight cultural and historic resources, as well as wildlife, recreation, and other resources that could be impacted by a spill. On September 18 we will also have an optional half day training and mini-exercises on restoration.
  • On September 15, we will hold an optional half-day training and site visit to our spill scenario location (TBD).
  • On September 16, we will have a full day of training on spill response and resources in the area.
  • On September 17, we will have a discussion-based table-top exercise that will walk through mobilization, cleanup and restoration.
  • On September 18, we will have an optional half day training and mini-exercises on restoration
The purpose of the exercise is to provide training on spill response, resources-at-risk, and support building additional relationships within the South Platte Subarea.

This course is open to public and private entities.
