Upstream Fish Passage - Fish Behavioral, Engineering, and Related Considerations Course ID: BIO-306
This course focuses on multidisciplinary aspects of fish passage design development process and is based on fishway designs throughout the Pacific Northwest during the last 30 years. Course emphasis is on fish behavior as a key design factor in site selection and other fishway features. Need for a fishway, what constitutes an impediment, and different types of “exclusion barriers” (barriers designed for management purposes) are covered as well. Different types of fish ladders, lifts, and locks are described with discussion of features and design criteria. A fishway design exercise will be included, along with discussion of common operations and maintenance challenges. General graphics and facility photos augment discussions. Course includes touring nearby fish passage facilities and, in some cases, fish being sampled and processed by facilities. Registration: Early bird rate 450/*350 until March 19, 2010 $495 / *$395 thereafter (*reduced tuition is available for Native American tribes; government employees; nonprofits; students; and NAEP, NEBC, NWAEP members). You may register via the link below or by calling the Northwest Environmental Training Center at 206-762-1976.
