| Event Name: |
Incremental Sampling |
| Hosted By: |
U.S. EPA
Office of Superfund and Emergency Management |
| Event Description: |
Incremental Sampling provides an overview of incremental sampling (IS) concepts to address soil heterogeneity and ensure that soil samples accurately represent the site. The course uses the seven-step data quality objectives (DQO) process to explore the elements of planning and implementing IS designs. The course uses lecture and interactive scenarios to practice and discuss sampling design using the DQO process.
Course Objectives:
-
Understand how soil heterogeneity and sampling methodology impact data variability.
-
Gain introductory skills necessary for planning, designing, collecting, and analyzing incremental soil samples with robust data quality considerations.
-
Integrate systematic approaches for tool selection, field sampling, processing, and subsampling to produce representative soil samples that support defensible decision-making.
-
Calculate common statistical parameters that support quality control and analysis in incremental sampling.
-
Design an IS approach following the seven-step DQO process.
The Incremental Sampling course is recommended for EPA, federal, state, and tribal personnel who support site investigation programs.

Daily Class Times:
Thursday - 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Friday - 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
The CERCLA Education Center (CEC) understands that questions will continue regarding the status of CEC courses currently planned for 2022. Although we hope to be able to hold classroom trainings this fall/winter, the CEC will assess current conditions and make a go/no-go decision for each course six weeks prior to the start of the delivery. The CEC will assess current local and EPA COVID-19 guidelines; current EPA travel policies; and the number of students enrolled in a course before making a decision. Registered students will receive a notification via email if the course is postponed. Information will also be posted to the appropriate Trainex page. Questions may be directed to Jodi McCarty, ICF (jodi.mccarty@icf.com).
