U.S. EPA
Office of Superfund and Emergency Management |
| Event Description: |
OSC 201 is designed to equip On-Scene Coordinators (OSCs) with the skills necessary to handle everyday removal action site activities. The course explores effective conceptual tools for managing factors that influence cleanup operations at removal sites. It prepares OSCs for the challenges they will face during a removal action and an emergency response. Emphasizing a hands-on approach, the course focuses on removal and emergency response management from the perspective of field operations, aiming to achieve response action goals and offers practical opportunity to apply the skills through a response case study.
Course Objectives:
-
Understand how to apply a Removal Site Strategy Model to a project.
-
Develop project management skills, including skills in project organization, resource and personnel forecasting, meeting planning, site activity documentation, and schedule and cost tracking.
-
Learn to effectively navigate daily removal process tasks and adapt to changing site circumstances.
-
Understand the essential elements of conducting removal actions in alignment with the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP).
OSC 201 is an intermediate?level training course recommended for EPA OSCs with one to two years of experience, particularly those who have worked in the field on removal actions and have assisted other OSCs. This course is ideal for OSCs preparing to take the lead in conducting a large-scale removal action. It also serves as a valuable review for more experienced OSCs. Additionally, OSC 201 may benefit other EPA removal program personnel, including Headquarters regional coordinators, enforcement personnel, Removal Managers and Special Teams members.
THIS COURSE IS NOT OPEN TO OTHER FEDERAL AGENCIES, STATES, TRIBES, ACADEMIA, CONSULTANTS, CONTRACTORS OR OTHER PRIVATE ENTITIES. The Removal Process course is a prerequisite for EPA employees who would like to attend OSC 201.
This course is offered free of charge to all registrants who are confirmed to attend.
