RCRA Corrective Action Long-Term Stewardship - EPA/ASTSWMO Taskforce Workshop
Hosted by U.S. EPA RCRA Program and ASTSWMO Corrective Action and Permitting Task Force

This workshop being jointly held by the US EPA RCRA Program and ASTSWMO Corrective Action and Permitting Task Force.

As the year 2020 approaches, the EPA RCRA Corrective Action program and state authorized programs have made great progress in addressing hazardous waste cleanup issues at thousands of facilities in the US. It is anticipated that by 2020 over 3,000 Corrective Action facilities will have cleanup remedies in place. In many cases, residual contamination may remain, and so these remedies involve Institutional Controls as well as Engineering Controls that will continue to require operation and maintenance for years to come.

For RCRA Corrective Action facilities, Long Term Stewardship (LTS) is a compilation of activities and processes used to control and manage contaminated material and media, and ensure protection of human health and the environment, over time. These approaches vary depending on environmental conditions of a facility, local and state regulations, as well as a number of other factors. For this reason, LTS involves ongoing coordination and communication among numerous stakeholders, each with different responsibilities, capabilities, and information needs.

In order to share LTS experiences and approaches and create consistency among corrective action program implementers at the federal and state level, EPA is hosting an LTS workshop for EPA HQ, Regional and State / ASTSWMO representatives. The goal for the meeting will be to foster a dialogue between States and EPA that will assure partnership and consistency for corrective action facilities.
