General Information
Event Name: Long-Term Monitoring Optimization (LTMO) Training
Event Description: Please see each individual offering link for detailed description, class contact, host, and logistics information.
Additional Information: Offered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA)/OSRTI, U.S. EPA Region 9, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

The Long-Term Monitoring Optimization (LTMO) seminar will provide state and federal regulators with information about new quantitative methods of LTMO for groundwater. Responsible parties have used LTMO techniques at more than 50 sites nationwide and are likely to use them at more sites in the future. As a result, it is important for regulators to be familiar with LTMO techniques such that appropriate decisions can be made regarding the optimal location and frequency of groundwater monitoring and approval of changes to groundwater monitoring networks. While the seminar is designed primarily for state and federal regulators, federal facilities cleanup managers, potentially responsible parties (PRPs), and contractors are welcome to attend if space is available. State and federal regulators will receive registration priority.

Day 1: The seminar will feature presentations and in-depth discussion of the importance of reviewing long-term groundwater monitoring data; the types of sites that could benefit from LTMO; individual LTMO techniques, including the Monitoring and Remediation Optimization System (MAROS), the Parsons Three-tiered Monitoring Network Optimization (MNO) approach, and other emerging methods; the strengths and limitations of the various techniques; the lessons already learned from LTMO case studies; and where to find LTMO resources and technical support.

Day 2: Optional hands-on training in the use of MAROS will be provided from 8:00 am - 12 noon and from 1:00 - 5:00 pm. Capacity for the hands-on training is limited. Participation will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis; and preference will be given to state and federal regulators. State and federal regulators who want to attend the hand-on training are encouraged to register early.
