Americans around the country are learning about climate change and strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and their carbon footprint. While energy use, energy conservation and alternative energy are often the focus of such efforts, attention is increasingly directed at product life cycles and the opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through waste prevention and recycling during product manufacture, distribution, use, and waste management. Understanding these connections is an important element of climate action plans and strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

EPA Regions 1 and 2 invite you to the Northeast Forum on Climate and Waste Connections. Join us for a series of web-based training sessions and discussions as we hear from experts and practitioners from the Northeast and beyond. Our goal is to advance the discussion about materials management and the climate connection in practical ways that will help communities integrate waste reduction and recycling into climate plans. Through these training sessions we will:
  • Bring attention to the climate impacts from managing solid waste and recycling
  • Identify issues that would benefit from regional and national collaboration
  • Provide tools and assistance for incorporating materials management into climate action plans
Webinar 1: What is the Climate-Waste Prevention Connection? - Thurs., June 4, 2009 at 1:30 - 3:30 PM EDT
Webinar 2: Make Materials Management Count: Tools and Techniques - Wed., June 24, 2009 at 1:30 - 3:30 PM EDT
Webinar 3: Working Together: Reducing GHG through Materials Management  - Thurs., July 23, 2009 at 1:30 - 3:30 PM EDT

**You must register for each webinar separately using the links below.**

This is Part 3 of the webinar:
Working Together: Reducing GHG through Materials Management

This is the third in a series of free web-based trainings on the connection between climate change and waste prevention. It will focus on regional efforts to address climate change and materials management by using the solid waste hierarchy of reduce, reuse, and recycle. We will present two regional approaches to reducing greenhouse gases, as well as what we learned from the feedback received from the first two webinars in this series.

Regional Approaches:
* Northeast Waste Management Officials’ Association’s Climate-Waste Action Plan
* West Coast Forum on Climate Change, Waste Prevention, Recovery, and Disposal

Participants will be invited to submit questions and respond to audience discussion questions electronically. We plan to provide responses to all questions that are asked during the webinars.
